As we bring the first quarter of the year to end, we have already had a great year of boxing. The momentum is building for the next super fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia April 22nd. Davis vs Garcia will draw the attention from hardcore and casual boxing fans. With so many around the world anticipating the April 22nd mega fight, there are other notable dates that are being overshadowed. Here are some other notable matchups you do not want to miss!
April 1st in Tulsa Oklahoma on ESPN+ Isaac Dogboe and Robeisy Ramirez will clash for the Vacant WBO Featherweight World Title in a 12 round bout. Ramirez is coming off a TKO victory over Jose Matias Romero. Before that he stopped Abraham Nova in dramatic fashion. Dogboe is coming off of two back to back victories. A Majority Decision win over Christopher Diaz and a Split Decision win over Joet Gonzalez. Both Ramirez and Dogboe are known to bring action into the ring. I look forward to this fight being a war for as long as it will last.
April 1st in London on DAZN Anthony Joshua returns to the ring against Jermaine Franklin. Anthony Joshua is coming off two losses to Oleksandr Uysk. Joshua is looking to reclaim his spot at the top of the heavyweight division. It starts with a win over Franklin who is also coming off a Majority Decision loss to Dillion Whyte. Note that fights over the pond typically start at 2pm ET State side.
April 8th in Newark New Jersey on ESPN/ESPN+ Shakur Stevenson returns home against Shuichiro Yoshino in a 12 round WBC World Title eliminator fight. Shakur has quickly rose to prominence in boxing with emphatic victories in his last few bouts over Jermell Herring, Oscar Valdez, and Robson Conceicao. He looks to continue his Dominance against Yoshino who is also an undefeated fighter out of Japan. Yoshino is coming off a Knockout victory over Masayoshi Nakatani, a former title contender who most notably stopped Felix Verdejo back in December of 2020. I am Looking forward to this fight April 8th.
On the Stevenson vs Yoshino undercard, Brandon Chambers will be facing off against Bruce Carrington making his Top Rank debut. If you are from the Baltimore and DC area, you know Chambers is a class act Inside and out of the ring. Known to be a tough opponent for whoever steps in the ring with him he looks to bring that toughness and power to New Jersey April 8th against rising star and prospect Bruce Carrington.
April 8th in San Antonio Texas on DAZN Jesse Bam Rodriguez is fighting Cristian Gonzalez for the Vacant WBO Flyweight World Title. If you still don't know who Bam Rodriguez is, April 8th would be the night to tune in. He is one of the fastest rising stars in the sport boxing. He doesn't get the name "Bam" for no reason. One of his most notable performances was a TKO victory against Sor Rungvisai, a ferocious puncher known for his two performances against future hall of famer Roman Chocolatito Gonzalez in 2017. Bam shocked the world when he willing traded with Rungvisai and won the exchanges resulting in a TKO victory. He is looking to make another statement April 8th.
April 8th in Carson California on Showtime Sebastian Fundora will rumble with Brian Mendoza for Fundora's Super Welterweight WBC Interim World Title. If you know anything about Carson California, you know that arena is known for producing some of the best fights we have seen in decades. Something about the outdoor, colosseum like arena brings the gladiator out of fighters. Fundora himself is known to have delivered his best performances in Carson. Fundora vs Mendoza is a guaranteed fire fight. April 8th Carson California will be heating up again!
April 22nd in Las Vegas Nevada on Showtime PPV ($84.99) Gervonta Tank Davis will finally get in the square with Ryan Garcia. Easily one of the biggest fights to be made in boxing, I am certain this fight will break records. Guaranteed explosions during this fight. Both fighters are known for their highlight reel knockouts and consistent media attention. It is safe to say on April 22nd the world will stand still to watch these two finally settle it fair and square in the ring
April 29th In Arlington Texas (Network undefined)
Eimantas Stanionis and Vergil Ortiz will meet in the center of the ring in a fight I can almost guarantee will not go the distance. If you are a casual boxing fan that is looking for a brawl this is the fight to watch. Both fighters are known power punchers. Imagine two derailed trains heading full speed into a head on collision. That is the kind of fight we are in store for April 29th. Circle the date to watch both guys put on a show to claim their spot as the next big thing in the welterweight division.
May 6th in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico (Network undefined) Canelo Alvarez returns home after over a decade to put his Super Middle Weight Undisputed World Titles on the line against John Ryder. Canelo is coming off a his second career loss to Dmitry Bivol. Canelo went on an impressive win streak after losing to Floyd Mayweather that catapulted him to the top of the pound for pound list. John Ryder is coming off a Split Decision victory over Daniel Jacobs in February of last year. Canelo wants the rematch with Dmitry Bivol but first he has to get through John Ryder.
May 13th on Showtime (Location to be announced)
Rolly Romero returns against a game fighter in Alberto Puello to challenge for his WBA "Super" Junior Welterweight World Title. A lot of people have mixed feelings about Rolly, but one thing for sure and two things for certain he brings a different energy to the sport of boxing. Rolly is coming off a loss to Gervonta Davis and is looking to get back into the conversation in the Lightweight, Super Lightweight division.
May 20th in Las Vegas Nevada on ESPN+ PPV
Devin Haney will put his Undisputed Lightweight World Titles on the line against the Matrix Vasiliy Lomachenko. The drama in the lightweight division has been brewing. Known as the most talented division in boxing, These guys have been on a collision course for years now. Lomachenko previously held the Undisputed Lightweight World Titles but was beat by a narrow by Teofimo Lopez Jr. Teofimo Lopez's reign as Undisputed World champion as short lived. He was beaten by George Kambosos. A fight that many thought Teofimo would walk through easily being that he dethroned the great Lomachenko. Kambosos also had a short reign as the Undisputed Lightweight World Champion. He inked a fight with Devin Haney. Devin took the belts from Kambosos convincingly them turned around and beat him even more convincingly in the rematch to prove he was the real king of the Lightweight Division. Now the two meet, old champion in Lomachenko vs the new and current champion in Devin Haney. Will the titles return back to Lomachenko? We will see, make sure you do not Miss this fight. Boxing needs this match up.
May 20th in Dublin Ireland on DAZN
Chantelle Cameron steps in as a replacement for Amanda Serrano to challenge Katie Taylor for her Undisputed Junior Welterweight World Titles. Amanda Serrano suffered an injury in camp. The rematch between her and Taylor had to be postponed. Chantelle Cameron is great fighter that can hold her own against Taylor. I have to be honest, I am looking for Katie Taylor to win so we can get Taylor Vs Serrano II!
June 10th in New York on ESPN/ESPN+
Teofimo Lopez is back in action against Josh Taylor the WBO Junior Welterweight Title holder. Both fighters coming off of razor thin victories, Taylor with a controversial decision against Jack Catteral and Lopez with a hair splitting victory over Sandor Martin. This is a matchup that is a must win for both fighters to regain supremacy in the division. Taylor, a former Junior Welterweight Undisputed World Champion. Lopez, a former Lightweight Undisputed World Champion. The stakes are high, everything is on the line in this fight. I look forward to an explosive night of boxing.
These are the most notable fights from now until mid June. Boxing is back! In fact, it never left! If you are a fan that's in and out I promise the fights on this list will have you on the edge of your seat. Hardcore fans we know what these matchups mean for the future of the sport. 2023 will be a year to remember in boxing with talks of a deal closing between Errol Spence and Terrence Crawford June 17th. We have been pulled left and right waiting on that Welterweight Undisputed showdown, so I wouldn't put too much hope in it until we get a confirmation from Both camps and the networks affiliated with the fight promotion.
